Volunteer Opportunities

Puppy Raising

Welcome a puppy into your home for whatever time commitment works for you!  If you can give a month, 3 months, 6 or even a year plus we’re grateful to our volunteers for whatever time commitment can be offered.  While fostering a puppy we will provide you with training sessions so you have the support needed to socialize your puppy, establish good house manners & begin initial training. As a puppy raiser you will have the opportunity to take the dog with you wherever you go & expose them to various environments & situations. Supplies, food, vet care, respite, training & support is all provided.

Adult Boarding Home

Adult boarding homes are needed in Medicine Hat for dogs entering advanced training. These dogs are about 18-24 months in age & simply need a place to call home while they attend advanced training in the day.  An adult boarding home will house the dog in the evenings & Saturday, Sunday & Monday.  From Tuesday to Friday in the day the dog will be picked up, attend advanced training & be dropped off back home in the late afternoon.  Supplies, food, vet care, respite, & any support needed is all provided.

Events, Short Term & Respite Support

We’re also always looking for volunteers who can support us by handling dogs short term.  This may mean attending community events & handling a dog for us.  Places may include seniors home visits or reading buddies in schools.  We also at times need people to open their homes short term for respite.  This may include a day, weekend or multiple weeks. This is a fantastic option for those that want to help, but aren’t ready to make a long term commitment.  Supplies, food, vet care & support is provided.

Quote from Lynne Spencer, Puppy Raiser Volunteer

“I hear this so often from people when I'm out training - "Isn't is hard to say goodbye?" I consider it a privilege to be part of the dog's journey toward becoming a service dog. Yes it's hard, but the reward of seeing the dogs so happy to do their job & change lives fills my heart. While they're in my care, I'm blessed with their unconditional love & affection.”
